Sunset key cottages map with legend11/25/2023 ![]() But you need to know what you are actually purchasing here. Located on the secluded 27-acre island of Sunset Key, this lush slice of paradise is just 500 yards off the coast of Key West. If you know what you're getting and don't mind getting it, it's a fine place and a heck of a lot more affordable than the rest of Key West. It was a very nice place, but the surprise of finding out I'm in a communal room gave a sour first impression. That throws the whole thing off from the start. But I don't want to be surprised by it when I arrive. And this place is probably the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in. Look, I've stayed in numerous hostels and shared rooms with plenty of people. This is not your average hotel because it's not a hotel: it's a hostel. And my brain said, ”My what?!” What I had actually purchased was a bunk bed in a room. So, during check in, I was told that my keycard opened by room and my locker. I needed a place to crash after meeting friends, so I didn't much care what the beds were like. Key West |1.93km from city center I booked a ”room with bunk beds” through some travel website or another. The awesome bar tender makes delicious key lime martinis! Overall the experience was very enjoyable. Other than that it is a beautiful building & top-notch location. To highlight this point, the staff at this ”destination” hotel warned us that if we see some stuff a little run down or not in operation, its because the hotel just got bought & things wouldn't get straightened out until the new company takes over.Īlso minor issues for such a pricey hotel included missing slats on the inner balcony door & similar minor cosmetic issues. And having parts of the hotel amenities, including outdoor areas, being closed off during the stay make this resort/destination fee more of a slap in the face. Not being forthcoming and clear about the destination fee was the issue I had. I let them know I booked through a 3rd party prepaid, it said fees & taxes were included. The next day, they insisted the fee could not be waived & were unwilling to help with it further. I asked about waiving this fee & the night desk said it was possible to check & see with day manager. Upon arrival, we were told we would be charged a fee of over $80 per room as a ”destination fee,” which was never explicitly disclosed & was certainly not fairly advertised. Our main issue with the hotel was HIDDEN FEES. He then said he could not grant me access as the desk had previously done. I went & took a photo through the window to show him. When I asked to use it the next day, another staff member says there wasn't one in the building. At one point in our stay, the front desk went out of their way to make us a key card to use the microwave located in the conference room. The staff was mostly very friendly, but the service level varied. A parking space is included, which is great to have right on Duval & Fleming Streets. The location is unbeatable & the balcony rooms, while smaller than other standard rooms, offers excellent people watching & beautiful blue sky views. Key West |2.38km from city center La concha is a beautiful & historic hotel in the heart of beautiful Key West. We did not try the restaurant attached to this hotel. There is happy hour from 4:30 to 5:30 with free wine. They provide unlimited free smoothies all day long. Drinks poolside were very reasonably priced. She was very customer service oriented and made great drinks. Patricia the poolside bartender for our five days we were there was outstanding. We did rent a golf cart more so for fun than anything else. The location is outstanding just off of Duval Street near the Southern most point. The concierge who is also the front desk check in person provided good advice on where to eat, rented us a golf cart, and set us up for a three hour charter boat. ![]() We also loved the double headed master rain-shower. Every evening they brought chocolates for the turn down service as well as Dove bars and muffins. Still see the little wear and tear in the cottages and site in general, but the setting and layout really cant be beat. Our room opened out onto a patio leading right to the pool. There is a fountain that blocks the street noise and also piped in music. The courtyard with two pools and a bar is an oasis. However, they removed our parking charge and several days worth of resort fees. We did have to wait an hour and a half for our room after our 4 o’clock arrival. I can’t say enough good things about this property with only one minor hitch. Once again a top rated boutique type Hotel on TripAdvisor does not disappoint.
